Worked example

An owner with a hardware shop and a transport firm

This year the shop sold KES 2,400,000 and the transport firm KES 900,000, of which KES 150,000 was delivering for the shop. The shop also lent the transport firm KES 500,000.

  1. 1.The deliveries are recorded once as an internal sale: income in the transport firm, a cost in the shop.
  2. 2.The loan shows as owed to the shop in one company and owed by the transport firm in the other.
  3. 3.The group's consolidated profit and loss takes out the KES 150,000 internal sale.
  4. 4.The consolidated balance sheet takes out the KES 500,000 loan, since the group owes it to itself.
