Cost centres

A cost centre is a part of the business you want to see a separate profit and loss for: a branch shop, a delivery van, a farm, a donor-funded programme.

Setting them up

Open Accounting > Cost centres and choose New cost centre. Give it a short code (such as VAN1) and a name. You can link it to a department.

Tagging

Once you have a cost centre, invoices, quotations, bills, orders, expenses and other income get a Cost centre box. Pick one and MannaBooks puts it on the income and expense lines of what the document posts. Bills made from an order and credit notes made from an invoice keep the tag.

Reports

• Profit and loss: choose a cost centre to see its own figures.
• Budgets: make a budget for a cost centre to plan and watch its spending.

A cost centre that has been used can't be deleted; make it inactive instead, so it is no longer offered on new documents.
