MannaBooks

Opening balances

Opening balances are what each account held the day before you started using MannaBooks: cash, bank and M-Pesa, stock, what customers owe you, what you owe suppliers and KRA, loans and capital.

Entering them

  1. Choose the as at date: usually the last day before your first day on MannaBooks. It must fall in an open month; if it is before your first financial year, add an earlier year first.
  2. Enter each balance as a debit (assets) or a credit (liabilities and equity). Take the figures from your last balance sheet or trial balance, bank statements and M-Pesa statements.
  3. Save draft as you go, then Post opening balances.

If debits and credits differ, the difference goes to Opening balance equity, so you can post even if you don't have every figure yet. Clear it later with a journal entry once you know where it belongs.

Changing them

Choose Unpost to edit, change the figures and post again. This is only possible while the month is open.

Income and expense accounts are not listed: they start at zero in a new year.
