Projects

A project is a job or contract whose income and costs you want to see together: building works, a consultancy assignment, an event, an installation.

Starting a project

Open Projects and choose New project. Enter the name, the customer, the contract value (what the customer pays, before VAT) and the cost budget (what the job should cost). The code is numbered for you (PRJ-0001) unless you type one.

Tagging income and costs

Pick the project on:

  • invoices and quotations for the work;
  • bills, purchase and service orders for materials and subcontractors;
  • expenses paid on the spot (fuel, casual labour, transport).

Stock sold or used on an invoice for the project counts as a project cost too.

Following the job

The project page shows:

  • Income, costs and profit, and the margin;
  • how much of the cost budget is used, with a warning colour as it runs out;
  • what has been invoiced, what the customer still owes, and what is left to invoice on the contract;
  • the figures by account, and the latest transactions.

When the job is done, set its status to Completed. Cancelled projects are no longer offered on documents.
