Departments and in-charges
A department groups staff (Sales, Stores, Finance, HR). Each department runs modules, and its head is the in-charge of those modules.
Why in-charges matter
The in-charge of a module:
- receives its approvals (for example, an order above a member's approval limit);
- receives its alerts and escalations;
- will be asked for its reports.
If a module has no in-charge, these go to the Owner.
| Example department | Runs | Head |
|---|---|---|
| Stores | Inventory and stores, Purchasing | Store manager |
| Finance | Finance and accounting, Cash and banking | Chief accountant |
| HR | HR and payroll | HR manager |
A module can belong to one department only, so there is never doubt about who is in charge.
Setting one up
- Add the head as an employee first.
- Choose New department, give it a name, pick the head, and tick the modules it runs.
- Put staff in the department from their employee record.
A department with employees can't be deleted; move them first.
